Typical Projects from our Equipment Engineering Practice

Condition evaluation of doublestack railcars and sludge containers

We were called in to evaluate the condition and value of a small fleet of doublestack cars and specialized containers used from transporting sludge. Sludge is the solid by product of water reclamation. We were required to conduct both an economic analysis as well as a physical inspection on the equipment. This project was undertaken on behalf of a major US financial institution.

Failure analysis of semi-insulated trailers

This assignment involved the review of a group of semi-insulted highway trailers that were used regularly in Canada. Over years of winter exposure to harsh road salt, the structures had suffered accelerated corrosion failure. We were able to design a modification, working with the original manufacturer to keep this equipment in service.

Due diligence study on marine containers

We were required to provide a due diligence study for a major US equipment lessor covering a container fleet it was acquiring. This required not only a valuation of the equipment, but also an in depth analysis of technical specifications that had been employed in the original purchase of the equipment.

Design of multi-compartment refrigerated containers

This project involved the design of modifications to existing refrigerated containers to create multiple compartments within the container that would support different temperature set points. This project was conducted for a US ocean carrier.

Manage the return of equipment at end of lease

At the request of a financial institution client we managed the return of their assets from a lessee at the end of the lease transaction. This involved setting up depots on an international basis, managing the return inspection process, negotiating repairs, and eventually disposing of the containers.

Develop maintenance management policies for refrigerated container generator sets

We were retained by Danish ocean carrier to streamline their policies covering the maintenance procedures for their fleet of generators (gensets) used to power refrigerated containers.
